Rabdentse

History freaks will have a great time exploring the Rabdentse ruins, also the ancient capital of Sikkim. The ruins of Rabdentse Palace lies just a few kilometers from the Pemyangste Monastery on the way to Pelling. Sikkim is a mystical land with a number of ancient monasteries and intriguing places to visit; Rabdentse is one such place. An interesting signboard of this ancient site on the highway to Pelling reads “Follow the Path and you will reach the Palace”. The palace ruins are at the centre of the fourth courtyard. The ruins that stand today are only a part of the palace. There was a separate portion for the royals and the commoners. Only a part of the palace remains today. This is where the kings of Sikkim had ruled and what a wonderful place for the palace!

Naku Chumbong

Naku Chumbong – The Eco village of Naku Chumbong is yet another important village of Sikkim. In the olden days when Chogyal’s were ruling from Rabdentse the water for cleaning, cooking and drinking was taken from this village – from Pacchu (the silver water/ spring) from where the water was taken for the Monasteries and Sechu (golden water/ spring) from here the water was used for the Royal household. There is a Mani lakhang near the Sechu.

Sidkyong Tulku Bird Park – Established in 2015 the wet lands between Rabdentse and Pemayangtse have been converted into a bird park with permanent residents and migratory birds coming during the winter months. Walkways though out the park are created for easy access along with elevated over bridges over the water bodies for aquatic bird sighting.
