Namchi

Nam (sky) chi (high) is the second largest town after Gangtok. Namchi, literally translating as ‘top of the sky’, is the South district headquarters. Set in a picturesque location, Namchi offers an unmatched view of the Khangchendzonga range and the Rangit valley. Namchi hosts the very popular Namchi Mahotsav, a tourism, culture, and food festival, every year in October. A flower festival is also held annually.

Char Dham

A newly developed Pilgrimage-cum-Cultural Centre has been constructed on top of the Solophok Hill in South Sikkim.The 26 ½ m high statue of Lord Shiva in a sitting posture marks the location of the main temple. Apart from this giant statue, the replicas of twelve Jyotirlingas along with the four Dhams - Badrinath, Jagannath, Dwarka, and Rameshwaram - are also installed in the complex. Solophok Chardham can be visited any time of the year.

Samdruptse

Samdruptse Hill, the wish-fulfilling hill in Namchi, is ornamented with a giant statue of the Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche). It is a 45 m tall statue overlooking the whole city and is gilded with gold that glitters when the sunlight falls over it and can be seen from as far as Darjeeling. The hill offers the vista of the magnificent Mt. Kangchenzonga. It is believed that the hill is a dormant volcano and only prayers can hold it from erupting. That's why the local monks offer their reverence and devotion to it. The newly constructed ropeway starts from Samdruptse and ends at the rock garden. The best part about this ropeway is the scenic vista of the West and South Sikkim hills and not to forget the mighty Khangchendzonga that sprawls just in front.

Sai Mandir

Small but beautiful, Sikkim is blessed with an outstanding Sai Mandir situated in Assanthang, a couple of kilometers away from Namchi. It is a two-storied building which resonates modern architecture. The temple is surrounded by a beautiful garden from where one can get a panoramic view of Mt. Khangchendzonga.

Tarey Bhir

Tarey Bhir is an amazing point of attraction for people who adore natural thrill. It is situated on a beautiful locale near a rural hamlet called Sadam, which is about 18 km away from Namchi. The word ‘bhir’ means cliff in the local Nepal language. It has breathtaking views all along from where people can get spectacular views of the river valleys below, the lush green forest coverage, panoramic view of the confluence of the two rivers of Sikkim Teesta and Rangit, and a view of a tea garden sprawled on the hill of Peshok with a train of houses all aligned along the road to Darjeeling.

Ngadak Monastery

Ngadak Monastery exudes with charm and spirituality. This monastery, located at a short distance from the main town of Namchi, was built during the reign of Chogyal Gyurmed Namgyal by Tensung Namgyal as the palace for Her Highness Pendi Ongmu. Ngadak is one of the oldest monasteries in Namchi and it is an apt place to seek peace and meditate amidst nature. It is said that whoever visits here has to make a promise to return again to the monastery. In fact, the nameNgadak itself means promise

Helipad

The Namchi helipad area is a wonderful open space with a large roundabout. The road from here goes towards Namchi town, which is about 5 kms away. Helicopter service is available between Bagdogra and Namchi every Thursday. The helipad area is also very popular for getting panoramic views of Mt. Kangchendzonga. Treat your eyes to the sweeping views of Darjeeling and Kalimpong hills as well as the lower plains of Bengal.
