Roing

Roing is a picturesque town in a valley by the side of the Dibang River. It is the last major township at the north-eastern frontier of India. Roing is connected to Tinsukia, a major town of Assam, separated by the mighty Brahmaputra River. During summer the river floods which takes a three-hour journey via ferry-boat which is quite an experience to have. The recently inaugurated Dhola-Sadiya bridge (Dr. Bhupen Hazarika setu) over the Brahmaputra River has made the route to Roing much easier.

Mehao lake

Located within the Mehao wildlife sanctuary at a height of 3000 feet and 14 km away from Roing town. The lake attracts a lot of seasonal birds and is a nature’s treasure house. The spot provides an ideal trekking experience and is a photographers delight. The lake is low in nutrient and hence the crystal clear lake has no fish in it. The absolutely clear water of the lake attracts huge number of wild ducks. It is a vast lake covering an area of about 4 sq. km. The surroundings of this lake are extremely rich in flora and fauna. The water of the lake is absolutely crystal clear and a boat ride walk around the lake fills one with divine pleasure.

Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary

Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary a real ocean of green paradise on earth. The sanctuary falls under the Mishmi hills are home to over 6,000 plants species, 680 species of birds, 500 species of orchids, 100 species of mammals, 294 species of butterflies and 50 species of Rhododendron. The Mishmi hills is a birdwatcher and wildlife enthusiasts delight. The region can boast of so many rare species found only in this region in the entire Indian sub-continent.

Sally Lake

The lake is situated at a distance of 3.8 km from Roing town amidst lush green forest. An ideal spot for picnickers and domestic day visitors. The lake overlooks the beautiful valley down below on the far horizon and the gushing Dibang River spreading its branches in multiple directions. Watch beautiful fishes in the clear waters of the lake. Halt here and experience the hospitality at the Sally Lake tourist lodge.

Mipi Pene

The Mipi Pene Center is located at Ezenggo, Roing, Lower Dibang Valley. Mipi Pene refers to the Igu or the shaman. The center was established in the year 2017 with the objective of preserving and promoting Igu system of the Idu Mishmi community. The idea is also to make it an excellent learning centre for the Igu system and the tradition and culture of the Idu Mishmis. The Mipi Pene Centre has an office for reception, a Seminar hall (Igu hall) with a seating capacity of hundred people, a museum where the materials related to Igu is displayed for visitors. A dormitory has been attached to the centre for students and scholars who may want to stay to learn Igu. The center also has an auditorium for larger cultural activities.

RIWATCH

RIWATCH is located near Abali Village and about 15 kms from Roing. It is an institute-cum museum. Foreign students visit the place. RIWATCH  is  a  non-profit,  non-governmental, community based research organization with mission of empowering  ethnic communities to prosper sustainably by strengthening their value system. RIWATCH is collaborated with various international organizations. It carries philosophy of all round development of the society through Education, Sustainable Development and Research.

Hot Spring at Jia village

The atmosphere and the hot-spring not only provides serenity and calmness but also gives the tourists a chance to witness the daily lives of the villagers living nearby. One can just stroll around the hot-spring or even have a refreshing and rejuvenating hot-spring bath. The Jia hot-spring is just at around 19 minutes drive from Roing town.

Bhishmaknagar

Bhishmaknagar has its link with the great Indian mythology ‘The Mahabharata’. Rukmini, the chief wife of Lord Krishna was believed to be from this region. However, there is no evidence of their existence but the ruins (plinth) of the fort remains and are proof to some really great history of the region. Bishmaknagar is situated 30 km southeast from Roing town. The place is ideal for trekkers and birdwatchers.

Mayudia Pass

Mayudia pass is located at 56 km from the district HQ Roing. The Mayudia pass stands at an elevation of 2655 mtr. (8711 ft.) above sea level. The pass normally witnesses snowfall form November to March but heavy snowfall in January and February manage in attracting a lot of domestic tourists. The area receives snowfall during the months from December to March. Thick cover of snow adds exquisite serenity to the place. Experience the kind of hospitality perfectly blended with local traditions at the beautiful guest house overlooking the picturesque valley. Walk a little and you are in the midst of sprawling bears, fast running wild goats, flying squirrels, variety of birds and above all the famous Mishmi Takin. Trekking in high altitudes in chilled weather and enjoying the peaks is a heavenly joy here.

Hunli- a picturesque town

Nestled in a beautiful valley at an altitude of 5000 feet is this town of Hunli, a sub-divisional headquarter. The 90 kms drive from Roing to Hunli crossing the Mayudia Pass at an altitude of 8800 feet through the well maintained black topped road provides thrill and eye catching scenic beauty. Two hours of trek from the town will take you to the interesting cave temple at Kupunli near Hunli. The Circuit House located on a ridge giving splendid view of the valley will ensure that you would cherish every moment of your stay at Hunli. And don’t get surprised to see the well equipped Internet center provided by Community Information Center at Hunli; even in interior place of Himalaya, you have full and speedy access to Internet.

Ita and Padum Pukhuri

It is a historical brick built pond located at Ithili village about 14 kms from Roing. A few hundred yards apart from Itapukhuri is situated Padum Pukhuri. It is observed that in the month of October/November, hundreds of lotus flowers bloom in it.
